The main purpose of a music video is to market the artists music, to potentially increase their sales and draw awareness to their music. This is done by having a memorable visual image of the song which stays in the viewers mind, which could significantly increase sales. Also a music video seeks a reaction from viewers which again makes it memorable and allows the video stay on peoples mouths, promoting it. Which all creates awareness to the artist as a brand.

The music video I will be analysing is Sevyn Streeter - nEXt ft. Kid Ink. The purpose of this music video is to heighten the meaning of the topic about going back to your ex boyfriend, by using visuals to explain the storyline and concept in more depth. The music video also conveys how you can be in love with two people at the same time. Overall, the music video is there to advertise Sevyn Streeter and to draw awareness to her character as an artist. It also increases her profile of music videos as she doesn't have many. But finally it gives her more of a fan base as through music videos fans can comment and share their opinions. And can feel as though they have more of a connection with the artist by seeing a motion picture.

The style of the music video is performance, narrative and concept based. 

 The narrative is shown through the use of her lyrics and the storyline of her meeting the guy at her job but previously broke up with her boyfriend. This is shown through the use of cinematography. The mid shot depicts them breaking up which is the opening of the narrative/story. 

  Further more the sound, diegetic sound where we can hear sevyn say 'your breaking up with me at my job?' Really starts off the story. 

This makes the audience more intrigued as there is a beginning which will lead to a middle and ending. Making it more interesting for the audience to watch and gives them a different understanding of the artist. As it's almost like its Sevyn's true story. Giving you a different idea of the sevyn as an individual.

The performance is shown when she is singing/lip singing throughout the music video. 

This performance adds to the impact of the song as it makes the story more interactive with the audience. As you can see who the person singing is. This is also paired with cinematography, close ups when she sings. This is so the audience can really see who the artist is, what she looks like etc. Keeping a memorable image of sevyn in your head. 

The concept as mentioned above is going back to your ex-boyfriend. This concept is shown by the lyrics obviously but it is shown by the ex boyfriend having separate intimate shots with Sevyn. Which matches the concept on love/relationships.
